Meet the Aries Team: Brianna Bowen, Director of Marketing
Tell us a little about yourself – how long have you been working for Aries? What did you do before joining Aries?
I have been with Aries Systems since February 2020 which makes my tenure here a little shy of 3 months. Prior to Aries, I worked in the B2B Payments space for MineralTree, a software startup in Cambridge, MA focused on streamlining and automating the AP and payment processes for financial institutions and SMBs. Before that, I worked for WEX Inc., in Portland, ME where I managed marketing for ExxonMobil’s North American Commercial Credit Card Program. Prior to that, I worked for a professional services consulting firm based in Boston, MA where I was able to apply various marketing tactics and strategies across a variety of verticals.
How have your previous roles helped you in your current position?
My previous roles have certainly helped prepare me for my current role at Aries in several ways. I have a great deal of experience managing multi-channel marketing campaigns, social selling channels, customer engagement initiatives, and retention and attrition campaigns which can all be applied to the work the marketing department is doing here at Aries. I’ve worked across many industries and have learned how to quickly pick up on specific customer needs, industry trends and nomenclature, and marketing tactics and strategies necessary to drive change.
How do you stay up-to-date with customer needs?
It’s really important for the Marketing department to be in tune with what our customers and prospects need. In order to stay up-to-date and connected, we meet frequently with the Client Services, Sales and Product teams. I also read the Scholarly Kitchen and other similar publications to stay informed on industry trends.
Tell me about your department and the people you work most closely with.
Aries’ Marketing is a relatively lean team, however, together the team brings a vast variety of skills and best practices that collectively make us really strong. We all bring different industry experience which allows us to think differently about the strategies and tactics we execute against. As a department, we partner very closely with the Client Services, Sales and Product Management teams. It is critical that our teams stay aligned so we are able to holistically understand and act upon customer and prospect needs.
Describe your typical workday.
Every day brings on new opportunities and challenges for our team to tackle. A “typical” day could consist of cross-functional meetings, copy/technical writing, design briefings, or simply heads-down working. No single day is the same which keeps things interesting!
What do you most enjoy about your job?
I really enjoy the people and working with all the teams at Aries. Everyone is so intelligent and we are always pushing each other to achieve excellence whether it be around the product, marketing, or our level of service to our clients. The Aries team is super innovative and always thinking about how we can tackle the next challenge and help our customers publish faster and smarter.
What are you currently reading, listening to, or watching?
I am currently reading Educated by Tara Westover. My favorite author is Harlan Coben but I love reading books about history too. When I am not reading or busy doing other activities I watch a lot of reality tv – it’s a guilty pleasure. In my opinion, there is no better way to turn off your mind after a busy day than to watch people you don’t know bicker on national tv over absurd issues! When driving or commuting I listen to a lot of crime podcasts or the series How I Built This.
Tell me about some of your hobbies/interests outside of work?
Outside of work I love to travel and hike/anything outdoors. My husband and I recently took some time off work and converted a Cargo van into a home on wheels and traveled across the US for 3 months with our pup, Mabel. We visited lots of national parks, famous cities, and clocked in many miles of hiking. If we aren’t traveling or hiking, we are usually spending time with our family and friends.
