Editorial Manager Ingest Service Empowers Manuscript Service Providers and Scholarly Publishers
September 5, 2014 | North Andover, MA –
The Editorial Manager cloud-based service from Aries Systems is used by thousands of scholarly journals for manuscript submission and peer review. Millions of authors use the system to upload files and enter manuscript data for downstream evaluation by editors and peer reviewers.
Prior to submission, authors frequently use a range of manuscript services to assist with document preparation including: bibliography management, collaborative authoring tools, language polishing, and journal selection services.
Subject to publisher permission, manuscript service providers can now automatically transfer manuscripts to Editorial Manager, thereby simplifying the submission process for authors and increasing submissions for journals. All the stakeholders benefit.
This new Editorial Manager service leverages the U.S. National Library of Medicine’s Journal Article Tag Suite (JATS) standard DTD (version 1.0 and up) to facilitate ingest of metadata in a standardized format, including prior reviewer comments. The ability to ingest reviewer comments means the ingest service will be attractive to the growing number of vendors that offer independent pre-submission peer review.
Aries also anticipates that scholarly publishers may be interested in using the ingest service to transfer manuscripts that have been rejected in other peer review systems, or to create branded publisher front-end submission portals.
The service can also (optionally) make use of ORCID identifiers to ensure that transferred submissions are accurately mapped to prior author registration records.
Richard Wynne, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Aries commented: “The Aries manuscript ingest service is much more than a point solution, it is a strategic pathway to connect the authoring experience with the submission experience. This innovation is an example of how Aries systematically leverages new standards such as JATS and ORCID to create opportunities for its publishing customers.”
Aries will be exhibiting at upcoming OASPA, Frankfurt Book Fair, and ISMTE conferences, so if you’d like to learn more about the manuscript ingest service please arrange to meet us at one of these upcoming events: marketing@edmgr.com
