ORCID, Open Researcher & Contributor ID, is a recently formed organization with a mission to address the problem of ambiguity in author/contributor identification and attribution within scholarly research. The ORCID initiative creates an open registry and system of unique identifiers that may be linked to an individual’s work and to other existing author ID programs.

In anticipation of the initial system launch in late 2011, Aries has announced plans to capture contributor ID’s for authors, reviewers, and editors in Editorial Manager and Preprint Manager. Consistent with Aries’ commitment to publisher-controlled workflow, this feature will be configurable using the web-based interface and tools of EM and PM.
