Did you know? You can add saved searches to menus, and share saved searches with others.

Question-markThe latest versions of Editorial Manager (EM) and Preprint Manager (PM) include two time-saving enhancements to the Save Search feature:

Place ‘quick links’ to saved search definitions on Main Menus.EM and PM let you display links to saved searches in the appropriate main menu. You can add links to saved Submission searches to the Editorial main menu, or the Production main menu if Production Tracking is turned on for your publication; you can add saved Proposal searches to the Proposal main menu. This enables you to select and run a saved search without first returning to the Search Submissions or Search Proposals page.

Share saved search definitions with other users. You can also allow users with the proper permissions to share search definitions with selected editor roles. Any editor with a specified role can select and run these shared searches from his or her Search Submission page.

To learn more about these saved search capabilities, contact your Aries Account Coordinator.

NLM 3.0 support expands data transfer opportunities

NLM-logoThe latest versions of Editorial Manager (EM) and Preprint Manager (PM) include support for the NLM (National Library of Medicine) 3.0 standard, the latest version of the XML-based format for storing and transferring scholarly manuscripts. NLM 3.0 support underscores Aries’ commitment to support open standards, which offer customers more and better ways to utilize publication data beyond their EM and PM systems.

Have you thought of a useful application for sharing EM or PM data via the NLM standard? Share it with us at news@ariessys.com.

Dutch publisher chooses Editorial Manager for new legal journal

boom-uitgevers-DenHaag_LogoBoom uitgevers Den Haag (Boom), a media and publishing company based in The Hague, recently selected Aries’ Editorial Manager (EM) to support a new, open access legal journal that will launch in January, 2011. Boom chose EM primarily for its configurability, which enables display of on-screen text in Dutch. But the publisher was also impressed with EM’s breadth of functionality. “Editorial Manager offered everything we wanted, but also many things we hadn’t even considered, such as the eXtyles automated citation validation, linking and reformatting,” says Drs. Josephine Bakker, Project Supervisor at Boom. “These capabilities will simplify and streamline our editorial process.” Following the launch of its new Open Access legal journal, Boom plans to bring other publications online with EM. For more information on Boom and its publications, visit www.budh.nl.

Participate in the Editorial Manager and Preprint Manager 8.1 beta program

pen-checkmarkEditorial Manager (EM) and Preprint Manager (PM) 8.1 are now in beta, and we’re eager for beta test volunteers! Beta testing is a great way to preview new features and enhancements in the 8.1 release – including new Reviewer Questionnaire functionality that allows custom review questions, and new Enterprise Analytics Reporting (EAR) capabilities enabling ad-hoc emailing of reports and role-based email scheduling. As a beta tester you’ll see first-hand how these features will work on your EM or PM site, without impacting your live data. And your feedback will help us perfect the product for final release.

But hurry: The EM/PM 8.1 beta test period will last for approximately one more month. For more information or to volunteer, email Betsy Hopkins, Aries Business Systems Analyst, at bhopkins@ariessys.com.

For more information on the MAA and its publications visit www.maa.org.
